Derlin Newey, a longtime resident of Ogden, Utah, passed away peacefully during the night on April 24, 2026, at Chancellor Gardens assisted living. Born on August 17, 1931, in Ogden, Derlin lived a long life marked by his enthusiasm and a vibrant community spirit.

Derlin’s journey was distinguished by academic achievements. After working for years in sales he returned to Brigham Young University to finish a bachelor’s degree in economics and earn a master’s degree in business administration. He was known for his friendly and outgoing demeanor. Derlin was a joy to meet, leaving a lasting impression on those who crossed his path. Among his many memorable endeavors, he became well known for his delightful pizza deliveries when he was nearly 90 years old–a charming example of his enduring zest for life and service to others.

Derlin excelled as an outstanding ski racer in his youth and continued to relish downhill skiing well into his 80s. His love for adventure and challenge was matched by a commitment to serving others. He proudly served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, first as a young man in California and later as a senior missionary in Africa. Additionally, Derlin dedicated two years to teaching English in China through a program administered by Brigham Young University, demonstrating his eagerness to share knowledge. Derlin is survived by his seven children.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 10 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd. Family and friends are welcome.
