Elaine Bangerter

Apr 28, 2026

Elaine Bangerter, a woman of resilient spirit, loyal heart, and lifelong service, passed away on April 27, 2026, at the age of 98.

Elaine was born Elaine Boswell on January 15, 1928, in Honeyville, Utah. Her life spanned nearly a century of change, and through it all she remained deeply committed to her faith, her family, and the work set before her. She built a life defined not by ease, but by perseverance, growth, and quiet devotion.

She spent 30 years working at Hill Air Force Base, where she became a familiar and steady presence as the Snack Bar Supervisor at the base bowling alley. In her service there, as in many parts of her life, she formed lasting connections and took pride in caring for others in simple, meaningful ways.

Elaine’s personal life was layered and complex. She was first married to Floyd White Bangerter, which resulted in her two favorite things in life: her sons. Her second marriage was to Harold Wilson Orton.

She could be strong-willed and spoke her mind without reservation, often resulting in dynamic situations and much laughter. Yet those who stayed close to her witnessed a softening in her later years-a gentler presence that reflected growth, reflection, and enduring love. Beneath it all was a deep loyalty to her family and a desire to connect in her own way.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elaine found particular joy in working with Primary children and Cub Scouts. One of her most cherished milestones came in 2025 when she was sealed to her two sons in the Layton Utah Temple.

She had a playful and distinctive spirit, expressed through her love of Betty Boop and her memorable Halloween costumes, which brought moments of humor and lightness to those around her.

Elaine loved to cook and is remembered by many for her 7-layer dip. She also developed quite the sweet tooth later in life, with a particular affection for chocolate cake.

Elaine lived in Honeyville, Salt Lake City, Roy, and most recently Layton, Utah. Family was often at the center of her world, with a special bond shared with her granddaughter, Jamie.

She is survived by her granddaughters: Staci (Kevin) Fuller; Jamie Bangerter; Heather (Gregory De Milio) Bangerter; Natalie (Cleon) Wall; Annette (Dan) Holman; Andrea (Christopher) Schandel; 17 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Boswell and Catherine Hunsaker; her sons, Jimmie Lee Bangerter and Floyd Stephen Bangerter; grandson, Keith (Deitra) Bangerter; granddaughter Vickie (Jesse) Heiner; and 2 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM MDT at the Roy 1st Ward, 5850 South 2575 West, Roy, Utah. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM MDT at the same location. Interment will take place at 1:00 PM MDT at Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West, Roy, Utah.

All who knew Elaine are invited to share their memories, stories, and photos on her memorial page. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The family would like to thank those who so lovingly cared for her at Sunridge Assisted Living of Layton.
