Thora Ann Slater
With love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Thora Ann Slater on August 2, 2026. She was born on July 24, 1941, in Ogden, Utah. When she was young she thought the Pioneer Day parade and fireworks were for her birthday. Thora was a compassionate and loving soul. Her courageous spirit helped her endure many physical issues that were life threatening. She had a positive attitude and smiled through tough things. Thora’s radiant smile and loving nature brightened every room she entered, and her legacy will continue to shine on through her family and friends.
Thora was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in various capacities such as a Primary teacher, Primary President, Relief Society President, and Stake Primary President. Her strong testimony of Jesus Christ was evident in every aspect of her life. Thora was creative, her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, sewing, crafting and candle making; her beautiful creations were a testament to her creative spirit and will be cherished forever. She worked for the DMV, Coleman Knitting Mills and the IRS. She was a true homemaker, our home was filled with her love and warmth.
Thora is survived by the love of her life, her loving husband of 39 years, Wendell Slater, and all their cherished children, Cheryl (Kenny) Yearsley, Ann (Randy) Koger, Michael (Michelle) Phillips, Mindy (Wayne) Beckstead, Roger Phillips (Babs Bratten), Dixie (Art, deceased) Cragun, David (Dana) Slater, Kenneth John, Nancy John (Keith Jackson), Wendy (Shawn) Sparrow, Guy (Melanie) Slater. She also has many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adores. She is also survived by 2 sisters; Carolyn (Dick, deceased) Carter and Susan (Art) Seamons. She is preceded in death by her beloved first born son Junior Lynn Phillips, and her parents, Edgar Ray and Velma Thompson Richan. She is also preceded in death by 12 siblings and their spouses; Loren, Ezra, Vilda, Mary, Myrtle, Irene, Ray, Barbara, George, Lois, Kathy, Howard.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Jessica Wozab and her staff for the loving care they provided, you went above anything we expected. Thank you Inspiration Hospice for all the amazing care day and night, we could not have done this without you all. A special thank you to Mom’s friends, neighbors and ward members, Mom loved you all so much!
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 9:30-10:45 a.m., at the Spring Brook Ward, 5089 S. 3100 W., Roy, Utah, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the same venue. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery
