Paul was the youngest of four children. His siblings were Sue, who died at birth; Kent; and Mary Ann.

Paul grew up on a small family farm in Warren, Utah, where he learned many of life’s lessons and developed a natural curiosity for understanding how things worked. Those early years helped shape his strong work ethic, practical nature, and lifelong willingness to serve others.

Paul met the love of his life, Pamela Taylor, a “city girl,” at a friend’s wedding. She would become not only his wife and lifelong companion, but always his sweetheart. Their relationship grew into a devoted partnership, and they were married on August 6, 1965, in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Paul and Pamela celebrated 61 years of marriage just one day before his passing.

Together, Paul and Pamela raised four children and were blessed with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Paul was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings throughout his life. His service included serving on the high council, as stake executive secretary, in elders quorum leadership, as bishop, and as a Primary teacher. Paul and Pam also served three missions together: the Ogden Inner-City Mission, the Temple Square Mission, and as missionaries at Oakcrest Girls Camp in Woodland, Utah.

Paul was genuine in every aspect of his life. He was always willing to help and was not one to say no when someone needed a hand. His extraordinary patience was one of his defining qualities. Whether he was teaching, fixing something, serving in a Church calling, helping a neighbor, or spending time with his family, Paul gave people his time and attention without making them feel rushed or burdensome.

Professionally, Paul dedicated much of his life to public service and the water industry. He worked for Ogden City for 31 years and retired as the Ogden City Water Utility Superintendent. Throughout his career, he was especially devoted to water quality, conservation, and the responsible stewardship of community resources.

Retirement, however, did not suit Paul for long. He enjoyed being busy, contributing, and having a problem to solve, so he returned to work as manager of Bona Vista Water Improvement District, where he served for 12 years. There, he continued his commitment to the water industry and to serving the community. Paul was widely known and respected by his peers for his knowledge, experience, work ethic, patience, and dedication.

Paul’s professional and community service extended well beyond his day-to-day work. He served on the Pine View Water Board and with the Ogden River Water Users Association. He was also active in the American Water Works Association, serving as president for one year. His commitment to his community included involvement with the Ogden City Kiwanis Club, Plain City Lions Club, Plain City CERT, and the Plain City Cemetery Board. Whether the work involved water, emergency preparedness, civic service, or simply helping his neighbors, Paul believed in being involved and doing his part.

Outside of work and Church service, Paul was rarely one to sit around. He took great pride in his beautiful yard and spent countless hours carefully manicuring and maintaining it.

Paul also enjoyed camping and especially loved tinkering with his camping trailer. His natural curiosity and talent for understanding how things worked often led him to create gadgets, modifications, and improvements to make the trailer work just a little better. For Paul, there was almost always a way to improve something, and he enjoyed figuring out how to make it happen.

Those who knew Paul also knew that if he brought up the idea of a new car, trailer, gadget, or some other purchase, there was a good chance it had already been bought – or would be by the next day. By the time Paul mentioned something he had been considering, he had usually already done his research and made up his mind. It was one of those endearing traits his family came to know well and will always remember with a smile.

Paul approached life with curiosity, enthusiasm, patience, and a desire to make things better. He was happiest when he was busy, working with his hands, solving a problem, helping someone else, or spending time with the people he loved.

Paul’s life was marked by faith, service, hard work, patience, and devotion to family. He leaves behind a legacy built not only through his professional accomplishments and Church and community service, but through the countless everyday acts of kindness and help he freely offered to others. He set an example for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew him of what it means to quietly and genuinely serve.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, William Anderson Hodson and Itha Elizabeth Adams; his sister, Sue Hodson, who died at birth; and his brother, Kent Hodson.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife and sweetheart of 61 years, Pamela T. Hodson; their four children, Chad T. Hodson (JaNae), Angie Hodson Fisher (Corey), Marci Hodson Doolan (Tim), and Tracee Hodson Goff (Darren); seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Ann Hodson Wilson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many people whose lives he touched through a lifetime of faithful and willing service.

The viewing will be held Wednesday, August 12, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Plain City 7th Ward building, 2952 North 4200 West, Plain City, Utah, with a small graveside service following.

Interment will be at the Warren/West Warren Cemetery, 750 North 6700 West, Warren, Utah 84404.
