Citrus Heights — Dale Lamar Singleton, 99, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, church leader and friend to everyone he knew, passed away at his son’s home in Citrus Heights, California on July 30th surrounded by family.

Dale Lamar Singleton was born in Ogden, Utah on February 20, 1927 to Clarence Lyman and Lenna Read Singleton. He was the fourth of eight children with three older brothers three younger brothers and a younger sister. Dale’s seven siblings are Clair Evan, Lynn Read, Dean Emmett, Kent John, Charl Gene, Gary Dee and June.

Dale attended Burch Creek Elementary and Weber High School. As he was finishing his high school education, Dale followed the lead of his three older brothers and joined the United States Navy to serve his country and joined the conflict in World War II. After basic training in San Diego, he was stationed on the island of Guam in the Pacific Ocean. He was assigned as a member of the special team, The Seabees, and was given the responsibility of refrigeration on the island. This assignment was prompted due to his experience working with his Dad who was the Plant Engineer at Farr’s Better Ice Cream in Ogden. He held the rank of First Class Petty Officer. After the War in the Pacific ended, he remained on Guam for several months to help clean up the island from the war.

After his service in the Navy, he returned home to Ogden, Utah and attended Weber College. After year at Weber, he served a mission in Norway for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After returning home from Norway, he courted and married Valeen Dorney, the youngest daughter of Cecil Thomas and May S. Dorney of Ogden. Together they had two sons, Brett and Raun, and a daughter Ann. They also have thirteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.

Dale’s career involved Draftsman, Engineering, including a Professional Engineering Certification, and Project Management. He worked at Marquardt, Utah Power & Light, Eimco, Torkelson Engineering and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he was the Project Manager for Northern California and Nevada new church building construction and maintenance.

Dale and Valeen lived in Salt Lake City, Ogden, Kearns and then settled in Farmington Utah for many years as their family grew. He served on the Farmington City Council and served in many leadership callings in the church including High Council, Bishoprics, Elders Quorums, High Priest, Temple Worker and Home Teacher throughout his life. He was actively involved in his children’s lives being Coach for many baseball and basketball teams. He has a love to play and attend sporting events especially loved playing golf and snow skiing. After his family was raised and he retired, he and his wife moved to Northern California and lived in Placerville and Citrus Heights California.

Dale’s loving wife of sixty-three years passed away in 2016. Dale adores his wife and always shows support and love to her. Since her death in 2016, he has spent most of his time living with his children in Utah and California and acting as the family patriarch. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren sought his council and guidance throughout his life and he was always helpful and provided wise council. His family loves and adores him. He will be deeply missed.
