Joy Elnor Mower
January 31, 1936 — August 6, 2026
On August 6, 2026, Joy Elnor Mower, went to golf that great fairway in the sky, to knock down ten pins through the pearly gates, and to run, swim, pitch, dribble, spike, and dance with all those she taught and coached who have gone on before her.
Joy Elnor Mower was born January 31, 1936, in Ogden, Utah, to Robert Alfred and Mary Lundberg Mower. She was the fourth of six sisters. Joy was raised in Ogden and lived in the family home, which was built in 1887, for many years after her parents died.
Joy graduated from Ogden High and LDS Seminary. She attended Weber State College, graduating with a BS in Education and a Minor in Physical Education. While at Weber State, she joined the first bowling team in 1963, and just 2 years later, her team won the National Tournament. She also took many graduate classes at the U of U, BYU, and Utah State. Joy began her teaching career with one year at Washington Junior High before spending the next 29 years at Ben Lomond High. Joy taught and coached Bonnie Lassies, basketball, volleyball, track/field, tennis, and swimming. Joy worked an additional 20 years in federal service.
Joy served in many positions with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Relief Society President. She was member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Joy was a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp C for 40 plus years.
Joy enjoyed golfing and bowling. She participated in many tournaments for both sports, winning top spots several times. She even had many of her nieces bowl with her on leagues.
Joy is survived by her sister Carol Williamson, 19 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews whom she loved unconditionally. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Vera E. Joos, Marian R. Miner, Ruth A. Boatwright, Alice K. Gibbons and many dear friends.
Joy’s greatest passions were going to Broadway shows and attending and cheering on the Utah JAZZ with family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
The family wishes to thank Valeo Hospice for their care of Joy the last year and a half. They would also like to especially thank Lexi, Sophie, and Misty for their extra care of Joy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
