Richard Ralph Basford
Richard Ralph Basford passed away on Thursday July 30, 2026 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was born May 30, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska to Richard Kurt and Virginia Hales Basford. When Rick was three, his family moved to Anthony, Kansas and then at the age of eight, they moved to Laramie, Wyoming.
Rick enjoyed cooking, football, golfing with friends and family and traveling. He started swimming at a young age. He swam for Laramie high school, holding several state swimming records and earning himself a full ride college scholarship. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in business finance.
He married Chris Larson in 1976. Together they had two sons.
Shortly after they were married, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he worked at Arthur Frank Clothing Store. In 1979, Rick and a friend opened the first E.F. Hutton office in Ogden, Utah. In 1984, they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where he worked for Smith Barney, UBS financial services and IFAM Capital, before retiring in 2015.
In 1997, Rick met Wendy A. Verhaal. They finally married in 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they traveled to many places around the world, making lots of wonderful friends and memories.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife, Wendy A. Basford; his two sons, Kurt Lloyd Basford (Lauren) and Mark Richard Basford (Edward); and one beautiful granddaughter Billie Ann. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Groathouse (Kenny) and several nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents.
As per Rick’s request, there will be no funeral service at this time.
