Orlin Hollist Smith
Orlin Hollist Smith, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, at 9:51 p.m. in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Orlin was born in Tremonton, Utah, the fifth child of 13 children. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1948.
In December of 1948 he enlisted in the Amy serving at Fracis Warren Air Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming and later Andrews Air Force Base in Washington D.C. After his service in the Army, he later joined the National Guard. Being called into active-duty August of 1950. He had the honor of serving in the same outfit as his two brothers and being deployed in the Korean War. In Korea he served as both a gunner and radio operator. He returned safely from the Korean War later receiving an honorable discharge in April of 1952.
Following his honorable discharge, he later married Billie Kathleen Hemmert Smith on September 18, 1953. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on June 28, 1963.
Orlin loved working with his hands while employed at Hill Air Force Base as an aircraft electrician. Later retiring at the age of 55 his desire to serve the community never faltered. Orlin was a steadfast member of multiple community organizations such as Civil Air Patrol, Weber County Search and Rescue, and multiple church callings.
Orlin’s greatest joy in life was his family, his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Because of their love for children Orlin and Billie were a foster/shelter home for many years. During those years they gave their love and protection to 161 foster children.
Orlin enjoyed many nights playing Mexican train with his family, pinochle, flying airplanes, fishing, camping, going on cruises, spending time with his family, and most of his pride in his immaculate yard.
Orlin is survived by his daughters, Katherine (Steven) Thompson of Plain City, UT; Nasia Smith of Ogden, UT; Bobbi (Steve) Mani of Twin Falls, ID; and Nancy Smith of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee; son, Stan (Shauna) Smith of Plain City UT; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Kathleen Hemmert Smith; son, Michael Smith; grandchild, Steven Short; and great-grandchild, Darcie Hanchey; parents; 8 brothers; and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
