Joanne Karen Simmons
September 8, 1939 — January 25, 2026
Our beloved mother passed away Sunday morning, January 25, 2026, from complications of a stroke she suffered four days prior. Born Joanne LaVine on September 8, 1939, to Josephine Anderson and Herbert LaVine, she lived in Minnesota until age seven, then moved to Layton, Utah, where she met Elmer Simmons in her teens. They married on March 2, 1956, and had four children. They lived in Davis County, eventually settling in Kaysville.
Joanne loved to read and enjoyed doing crosswords and word searches. She loved her cats and later in life got into car shows, especially enjoying her 1969 Cougar convertible.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Gene and Jon; and her eldest grandchild, Jon Christensen. She is survived by her children: Cathy (Kurt) Christensen, Jolene (Jeff) Hanline, Julie (Guy) Knighton, and Jason (Julie) Simmons. She leaves behind ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She did not want a funeral, and in lieu of flowers (to which she was allergic), please consider donating to your local animal shelter.
