D. Craig Whitehead
D. Craig Whitehead, 74, of Independence, Kansas. Passed away on February 8, 2026, at his home with his family by his side.
Craig was born on June 28, 1951, in Ogden, Utah to Junior Darrell Whitehead and Mary Anna (Murray) Whitehead. He grew up in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ben Lomond high School. As a youth, he loved playing sports, especially baseball and he was a very talented pitcher.
He graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. While attending BYU he had a memorable experience of studying abroad in Israel in 1974. He married Sandy on August 22, 1992, in the Washington DC Temple; they are the parents of one daughter Rachel Whitehead. Craig’s career in City Management took him to New York, Vermont, Iowa, Illinois, Utah, and Kansas. Craig was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a two-year mission for the church in Thailand.
Craig was an avid reader with amazing collection of books. He had a great talent in writing, photography, producing family films and videos. We are also so grateful for the many treasures he left us.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy, and his daughter Rachel, sister Susan and Lori, his brother Murray and many nieces and nephew.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Kevin, and two infant brothers, Steven and Kim.
Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
