Jerry William Kennedy
Jerry William Kennedy, 82, passed away peacefully at his home on January 6, 2026, surrounded by his family, after a three-month fight with cancer.
Beloved father, proud grandfather, caring brother, and loyal loving neighbor and friend, Jerry was born in Ogden, Utah, on May 25, 1943, to Ivan Kennedy and LeOra Marshall. Jerry was the fourth of seven children and one of the second of three sets of twins in the family.
He grew up in Ogden, Utah and attended Ogden High graduating in 1961, then attended college at Steven Henagar’s College. In 1964, he was drafted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1970. After returning home, Jerry began a 32-year career with the Internal Revenue Service.
He met the love of his life, Shirley Smith, through his brother. They were joined in matrimony civilly in 1967 and sealed for time and eternity in the Logan Temple in 1968. Following their marriage, Jerry and Shirley built their home in Washington Terrace, Utah where he lived for the past 59 years.
His favorite pastimes included spending time with his grandchildren and his “grand fur babies”, thrift shopping, going to Chuck-a-Rama, researching family genealogy, working with computers, and collecting stamps with his grandson.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and stepparents; his sisters Glenna Kennedy and Joan Kennedy; his brother Glen Kennedy; his wife, Shirley Smith Kennedy; and his daughter, Tiffany Kennedy.
Those left to carry on his legacy include his sons, Devin Kennedy and Brandon Kennedy, and his daughter, Shantell Crawford. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Corbin Crawford, Logan Crawford, Gavin Kennedy, Joslyn Kennedy, Brinley Crawford, and Camden Kennedy. He is also survived by his brothers Rodney Kennedy, Dennis Jacobsen, and DeWayne Jacobsen.
A viewing will be held Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Leavitt’s Mortuary & Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah, 84403, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held the following day, Friday, January 16, at the same location, at 2:00 PM.
