David Cawley
David Harold Cawley, 79, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 28, 1947, in Ogden, Utah, to Harold and Shirley Cawley.
He met his lifelong companion and love of his life, Nancy Payne, in the second grade at Lorin Farr Elementary School. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 28, 1967 and shared 58 years of marriage filled with love and devotion.
David attended Ogden High School, Weber State College, and retired after a long career at Iomega. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose family was his greatest joy and priority.
A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, David faithfully served in many callings, including several years as bishop of the Ogden 20th Ward. He served with humility, compassion, and quiet strength, blessing the lives of many.
He is remembered for his strong work ethic, humor, kindness, and unconditional love. He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, metal detecting, stamp collecting, wood carving, leather working, and spending time hunting and fishing. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family.
David is survived by his wife, Nancy Payne Cawley; children Spencer (Kristen), Jared (Kim), Stephanie Martinez (Bill), Jake (Brandy), and Seth (Jill) Cawley; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; siblings Brent (Colleen), Scott (Laurel), and Mary Cates (Mike). He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Shirley Cawley, and granddaughter Lexi Cawley.
The family extends sincere gratitude to Assisting Hands (especially Mona), and Aspine Ridge Hospice caregivers Mia, Ashley and Pete for their compassionate care. Special thanks is also given to his granddaughters, Morgan and Aven, who lovingly cared for him on most evenings during his illness, bringing him comfort, companionship, and joy.
A viewing will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Waterfall Canyon Ward, with an additional viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment and a graveside dedication will follow the funeral services.
