LaJean Rees Cummings
LaJean Rees Cummings passed from this life on July 10, 2026 at her home. She was 92 years old. Born June 7, 1934 in Upalco, Uintah county, Utah to David Earl Rees and Rowane Murphy Rees. She was the first child and had 2 brothers: Noel E Rees and Earl Dexter Rees.
She attended Upalco Elementary school, where her aunt, Blanche Murphy, taught the 1st through 5th grade in one room. The younger kids would read to the older ones so the older ones could help them. She attended Mount Emmons Elementary from 5th grade until it was time for High school. She attended high school at Altamont High. While in High School she played clarinet in the band, was a cheerleader, was active with the yearbook and went to Salt Lake City to be a representative for FHA.
After high school she attended Weber State College for 2 years and received her Associates Degree. She then went to Brigham Young University for 2 years, where she graduated on June 3 1956, with her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
Just 4 days later, she married LJ Cummings in the Logan Utah Temple for time and all eternity. They had 4 children: Linda (Jerry) Schwegler, John Cummings, Mark Cummings and Robert Cummings. They had a happy family life focused around the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
LaJean was very active in her church, serving in many ward and stake callings. She was active in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for many years. She received Mother of the Year for Weber County in 2002. She was a member of many different book clubs. She especially loved the one in St. George.
She and LJ worked at the Ogden temple for 7 years. They worked at the Washington DC Temple for about 6-7 months before LJ’s health brought them back home.
Later, they bought a house in St. George to help look after LaJean’s Father. They loved St. George and came back to Roy for the summers. LaJean and LJ worked in the St. George Temple as long as LJ could. LaJean continued in the Temple until she could no longer leave LJ home alone.
LJ passed away December 15, 2022 and has since missed him everyday.
LaJean was preceded in death by her parents: David Earl and Rowane Rees; her brother, Dexter Rees; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Rees; sister-in-law, Colleen Cummings; brother-in-law, David Cummings; son, Mark Cummings; daughter-in-law, Marla Anderson Cummings; and grandson, Scott Schwegler .
She leaves behind her children: Linda (Jerry) Schwegler, John Cummings, Robert Cummings, Jaci Cummings Snow (daughter – in – law); 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, her brother, Noel E. Rees; sister-in-law, Judy Rees; and brother-in-laws, Roger (Linda) Cummings and Steve Cummings.
A funeral service will take place Friday, July 17, 2026 at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W., at 11 a.m., A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Roy City Cemetery, 5200 S. 2300 W.
