Jacqueline Gurnee
With profound sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Jacqueline “Jackie” Gurnee, a generous, loving, and inspiring soul, on July 14, 2026. Born on January 11, 1943, in Buffalo, NY, to John and Jean Sliter, Jackie grew up to be an incredibly kind, smart, and dedicated wife and mother. Her life, filled with kindness and the joy of living, touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Jackie’s amazing journey took her from birth in Buffalo, NY, to college at Lubbock, TX, and to other places before she finally settled in South Ogden, Utah. While attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, she met and fell in love with her soul mate, Francis “Bill” Gurnee. Bill was serving in the U.S. Air Force at Reese, AFB, TX. Jackie and Bill were married on August 11, 1961 in Brownfield, TX. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. The two traveled together for the next 20 years, as part of Bill’s military commitment, to many places, to include Topeka, KS, Spangdahlem, Germany, and Ogden, UT. They became proud parents of four sons during this time.
Jackie proved to be a wonderful mother to her boys while also passionately pursuing different careers. For many years she worked for Obermeyer Ski Company designing and producing ski clothing, where she received recognition for her knitting mastery. Jackie then ventured into the corporate world when she joined AT&T, in the early 1980’s, initially as a salesperson and then transitioning into a management position. Jackie’s career as a Manager at AT&T showcased her dedication and commitment to every task she undertook.
After retirement, Jackie’s love for life didn’t wane; instead, together she and Bill took to hobbies such as scrapbooking, antiquing, and cookie jar collecting with the same passion. They traveled the country together antiquing while also visiting family and friends.
Jackie was a beacon of love and warmth to her family, who mattered most to her, and to all the close friends and friendships she made along the way. She is survived by her sister Judy Vance; her loving sons and daughters-in-law, William and Denise, Michael and Kim, John and Amber, and Christopher and Rebecca; her 13 grandchildren Desirae Irvin, Colby Irvin, Steven (Sarah) Gurnee, Kyrie (Eric) Thacker, Haley Gurnee, Taylor Painter, Andrew Painter, Andrew “AJ” Gurnee, Austin Gurnee, Caleb (Kira) Ward, Lynnea Ward, Corbin Gurnee, and Chloe Gurnee; her 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Gurnee, and her parents, John and Jean Sliter. The family will receive friends for Jacqueline’s viewing at Myers Mortuary – Ogden, 845 Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah, 84404, on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 5:00 pm MDT.
