Larry graduated from Morgan High School and later attended Weber State College. He married the love of his life, Nancy Coombs, in the Salt Lake Temple on February 12, 1959. Together they built a home in Layton, Utah, where they raised five children and created a lifetime of cherished memories.

Larry spent most of his career as a computer programmer at Hill Air Force Base and Defense Depot Ogden. He enjoyed the challenges of his work, but his greatest motivation was providing for Nancy and their family. The home and life they created together meant more to him than any professional accomplishment.

Growing up in Devil’s Slide, Larry spent much of his youth exploring the mountains, rivers, and canyons of Morgan County. His love for the outdoors continued into adulthood, including time spent surveying in Southern Utah, where he gained an even deeper appreciation for the rugged landscapes of the West. An avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed camping trips and outdoor adventures with family and friends throughout Utah and surrounding states. For several years, he raised and trained German Shorthaired Pointers, combining his love of dogs with his passion for upland bird hunting. Whether beside a mountain stream, walking the fields behind his bird dogs, or gathered around a campfire, Larry was happiest sharing the outdoors with those he loved.

Nothing brought Larry greater joy than the family he and Nancy shared together. He faithfully attended athletic events, piano recitals, band and vocal concerts, ballet performances, and many other activities, rarely missing an opportunity to encourage and support those he loved. At the heart of that family was Nancy, his sweetheart. Their marriage was the foundation of the home they created together–one filled with faith, love, hard work, and service. Larry treasured every moment spent with family and friends and will be remembered for the love and devotion he showed to those closest to him.

Larry was a true disciple of Jesus Christ. His faith was reflected in the way he lived, his willingness to help others, and the love and kindness he showed to those around him. He will be dearly missed and always remembered for his gentle nature, steady example, and unwavering love for his family.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy; his son, Robert; his parents, Harvey and Faye Porter; his brother, Alan Porter; and his sisters, Donna, Barbara Mountz, and Peggy Jones.

He is survived by his children, Brad (Shari) Porter, VeAnne (David) Day, Stephen (Marlena) Porter, David (Trudy) Porter, and daughter-in-law Makiko Porter; as well as eighteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to Brad and Shari for caring for Larry in their home for 3 1/2 years with love and devotion. We’ll forever be grateful.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary. Family and friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.

Interment will be held at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton.
