Cherrill Amy Robson Martin
November 27, 1934 — May 21, 2026
Our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend returned to the presence of our Heavenly Father on May 21, 2026, as she passed away at the age of 91 at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. Cherrill was born at Dee Hospital on November 27, 1934, to Ralph E. and Amy T. Robson. Cherrill had three older siblings, Hyla, R. Thayne and Vira Beth, and two younger, Kent and Ross.
Cherrill grew up on a large farm in Plain City, Utah. She learned to work hard at a young age, helping milk the family’s herd of Holstein cows, working in their large vegetable and fruit garden and laboring in the crop fields. She loved growing up on a farm.
She met a very tall, handsome young man, Larry Martin, at a church Christmas Program and they quickly fell in love. They were married on September 5, 1950, in Ogden. Larry passed away on August 27, 1999. The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple.
Larry and Cherrill lived in Plain City, Utah; Compton, California; and Ogden, Utah, before their final move to Roy, Utah in 1961. Cherrill lived in that beloved home for the next 65 years.
Larry and Cherrill were blessed to be the parents of five children. Cherrill stayed at home to raise her children, until they were all in school. She then decided to enter the work force and began her lengthy career at the Internal Revenue Service. She started her work at the IRS as a key punch operator but quickly rose up in the ranks to become a senior tax examiner, for which she traveled and trained other workers. Cherrill retired from the IRS after 29 years in 1995.
Cherrill loved the Lord and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some of her church callings included Primary and Sunday School Chorister and Relief Society President. She enjoyed singing in quartets with other friends at various church meetings for many years. Cherrill served an 18-month mission at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Employment Center in Roy, Utah. Cherrill was also very active in her local chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Attending their meetings was one of the highlights of her month.
Cherrill found great joy serving her family and spending time with them. Cherrill was especially diligent in remembering each family member’s birthday. She was always happy to host family gatherings.
Some of Cherrill’s other hobbies included gardening, both vegetables, fruit, and flowers, especially red geraniums, and was meticulous in maintaining her flower beds. Cherrill loved sports. She cheered on all of the sports teams associated with the colleges and universities in Utah, particularly, the University of Utah. Probably her favorite sports team, however, was the Utah Jazz. Additionally, Cherrill and Larry liked to travel. They loved going to Southern Utah to enjoy the beautiful red rocks and amazing national parks and national monuments.
Cherrill is survived by her five children; Sherrie & David Wood; Kirk Martin; Val and Wanda Martin; Jan and Val Butcher; and Jill Smith. She is also blessed with 22 grandchildren, 49 great- grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Cherrill is also survived by her brother, Kent Robson; sister-in-law, Corene Lasson, and brother-in-law, Kent Martin.
We would like to express our appreciation to Dr. Jared Hiatt and Crysten Dempsey CNA, for taking such good care of Mom. We also want to sincerely thank her dear friend, Colleen Porter, for her continued love and support.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2175 W. 4250 S., Roy. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Plain City Cemetery.
