George Keith Barber

Jun 4, 2026

August 15, 1938 — May 24, 2026

George Keith Barber, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at the age of 87, surrounded by the love of his family. Keith was born on August 15, 1938, in Pueblo, Colorado, to George Smith Barber and Marjorie Jennings Smith.

Keith grew up in Pueblo and graduated from Pueblo High School. He later attended Pueblo Community College, where he earned an Associate degree in electronics, laying the foundation for a successful career in telecommunications.

In the late 1950s, Keith joined the United States Air Force and honorably served his country as an Airman First Class. He attended basic training in California alongside his brother Bruce and was stationed at several locations throughout his military service, including Texas, Arizona, Mississippi, Labrador, Canada, and St. John’s, Newfoundland.

While stationed in Canada, Keith met the love of his life, Jeanette Louise Peet. Their romance quickly blossomed despite the miles that would later separate them. After completing his military service, Keith returned to Pueblo to finish his education while continuing a long-distance courtship with Jeanette. Their devotion to one another never wavered, and Jeanette eventually immigrated to the United States to begin their life together.

Keith accepted a position with Ma Bell (AT&T) in Pocatello, Idaho. Before settling into his new career, he arranged a few precious days away from work to return to Pueblo and marry his sweetheart on September 28, 1963. Together they returned to Pocatello and began building a life filled with love, laughter, and family.

Their first son, Scott, was born the following year, and two and a half years later they welcomed their second son, Steve. After seven years in Pocatello, Keith accepted a new position with AT&T in Brigham City, Utah. There, Keith and Jeanette purchased their first home and established roots that would last a lifetime.

Keith and Jeanette were deeply involved in their community and formed many lasting friendships through Newcomers and the Elks Lodge, where he proudly served as Exalted Ruler. Family was always at the center of his life. He and Jeanette created cherished memories on countless camping trips and family vacations throughout the western United States. One of Keith’s favorite destinations was Redfish Lake in Idaho, a place that held a special spot in his heart.

Following his retirement from AT&T, Keith and Jeanette embraced a life of travel and adventure. They spent winters as snowbirds in the Laughlin area and escaped Utah’s summer heat by visiting the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, where they enjoyed time with Jeanette’s family. Along the way, they developed many treasured friendships and shared countless experiences together.

Keith was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette Louise Barber; his parents, George Smith Barber and Marjorie Jennings Smith; his sisters, Betty Sollee (John) and Creta Trevithick (Bob); and his brother, Bruce Barber.

He is survived by his sister, Linda Huber; his sons, Scott Russell Barber and Steven Dale Barber (Jenni); and his cherished grandchildren, Annie Barber, Shae Barber (Maddie Melton), and Kelsey Barber. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss his kindness, humor, and steady presence.

Keith will be remembered for his devotion to family, his strong work ethic, his love of travel and the outdoors, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply and in the countless lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to cancer research or to a favorite charity in Keith’s memory.
