Talene Elizabeth Spangler (Stokes)
Talene Elizabeth Spangler (Stokes), 53, of Syracuse, passed away on March 5, 2026.
Talene was born on October 16, 1972, in Marysville, Kansas, to Milton H. Stokes and Royetta Sue Sublette. As the daughter of a railroad family, she spent much of her childhood traveling and embraced the adventure of discovering new places.
On May 9, 1997, Talene married the love of her life, Robert Spangler. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and shared dreams.
Talene found joy in many things, including cats, musical theatre, and building LEGOs. She had a deep love for animals and enjoyed volunteering with her family at Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, where she adopted several of her beloved cats. After moving to Silverton, Oregon, she continued to support animal welfare through donations to the Silverton Cat Rescue.
Her greatest dream was to become a mother. That dream was fulfilled in 2002 with the birth of her first daughter, Elena “Lanie,” also known as “Keira.” In 2008, their family was completed with the adoption of Elizabeth “Autumn.”
Talene was her family’s proudest supporter and loudest cheerleader. She encouraged every passion with enthusiasm–from her husband’s model train hobby to her daughters’ many accomplishments. She celebrated both girls earning their black belts and competing in karate, proudly supported Lanie in earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah, and encouraged Autumn in pursuing her passion for musical theatre.
Talene loved to travel, especially on cross-country road trips with her family and friends. It was on one of those journeys that she and Robert fell in love with the beauty of the Oregon Coast. In 2025, their dream of retiring by the ocean approached reality when they took their first steps toward building a home on their land in Lincoln City. They looked forward to hosting friends, walking the beach, and enjoying the ocean together.
Talene was preceded in death by her beloved father, Milton H. Stokes. She is survived by her mother, Sue Stokes; her brother, Patrick; her devoted husband of 28 years, Robert Spangler; and her daughters, Lanie “Keira” Spangler and Elizabeth “Autumn” Spangler. She is also survived by her beloved cats, Ozzy and Hermes, who brought her endless joy.
A memorial service in Talene’s honor will be held on May 9, 2026 from 11:00am – 2:00 pm in Ogden, Utah at the MTC Park (Botanical Gardens) Pavilions (1750 Monroe Blvd, Ogden, UT 84401). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Talene’s memory to Best Friends Animal Society https://bestfriends.org/ or the Silverton Cat Rescue https://www.silvertoncatrescue.com/ .
Talene was a friend to all and had a remarkable gift for fostering community wherever she went. She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, deep compassion for animals, unwavering support for her family, and the love she shared so freely. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton, Oregon.
