Delores Anderson Shupe

May 1, 2026

Delores Anderson Shupe passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026. She was born March 24, 1937, in Ogden, Utah to William Albert Anderson and Myrtle Talbot Anderson. Delores lived her entire life in Ogden except for one year when she lived in Minnesota while her husband was in graduate school. She attended Ogden city schools and graduated from Ogden High School. She was proud that all her children also graduated from Ogden High and were Ogden High Tigers. She went on to attend Weber State College and graduated with her associate’s degree and then enrolled at Utah State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She was proud to be the first college graduate in her family. She worked many jobs to get through school. She was a nanny and her favorite job was being a waitress at the Grand Canyon lodge for four summers between college semesters. She made many lifelong dear friends which she has kept to this day during those summers. She even hiked the Grand Canyon from Rim to Rim, which she was always proud of.

She married Gerald “Monty” Shupe in the Logan LDS Temple on May 1, 1964. They were married for 51 years until he passed in October of 2015. Delores only had one sibling, a brother, Thomas Anderson, it was a shock to marry into the Shupe family as Monty was the youngest of 14 children. She really loved the big Shupe family.

Delores and Monty moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota for one year while Monty attended graduate school. She taught 4th grade while there and made some great friends. In their free time they helped to build their local LDS Chapel. She hated the bitter cold, so they stayed just one year in Minnesota.

Delores and Monty moved back to Ogden where she taught at Mound Fort Elementary for Ogden City Schools until they had children. After her youngest started school, she returned to teaching kindergarten at Municipal Elementary and then Midland Elementary in Roy and ended her career having taught for 30 years. She cared deeply for her students and remembered them throughout her life. Delores was a hard worker and owned and operated the Joy Shop, a women’s clothing store, and had a successful wedding business while raising her family.

Delores and Monty moved into their blue home on 36th street where they were blessed with five sons and one daughter. She was happy that all her boys became eagle scouts and served LDS missions. She was grateful to raise her children in a neighborhood with caring neighbors, friends, and church leaders. Delores had great friends and neighbors throughout her life.

After retiring Delores and Monty served as ushers at the conference center at Temple Square for 11 years. She loved her mission and she always said it was a great date night to be able to be on Temple Square each week and to serve around sweet people and feel the spirit.

She was a member of the Fine Arts Guild of Ogden, Tamaris Book Club, Utah Daughters of the Pioneers, Weber State Women’s Faculty Group, and a member of the Weber State Ameritas Alumni Association. Delores and Monty “bleed purple” and loved Weber State. She loved attending Weber State basketball games. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was very sad when the 73rd Ward building she’d attended was torn down and she couldn’t walk to church anymore.

She taught all of her children and grandchildren the value of hard work and the importance of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her life was a testimony of her Savior.

Delores is survived by her children, Brett Shupe, Blair and Leslie Shupe, Braden and Heather Shupe, Bryce and Layce Shupe, Jill and Jim Puffer, Bryan and Cindy Shupe, 21 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and her one brother Thomas and Joan Anderson. She’s also survived by two cousins that she called sisters, Ann Deaver and Dianne Allen, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Monty Shupe and her parents William and Mrytle Anderson.

Delores’s viewing will be May 4th from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden Utah. Graveside will be May 5th at 11 a.m. at Ben Lomond Cemetery, 526 E 2850 N, North Ogden.
