Nancy McFarland Burton

May 4, 2026

June 25, 1949 – May 1, 2026

After bravely enduring a 20-year journey with cancer, Nancy M. Burton passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, May 1st 2026.

Nancy was born in Ogden, Utah to Thomas Glen McFarland and Fern Barnard Wheelwright on June 25, 1949. She had many fond memories of her childhood on the family farm: the sleigh rides, the great fun in the family swimming pool with everyone, and the hills where she roamed with her brothers and sisters.

Nancy’s life was always full of her children and grandchildren. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many church positions. She knew at a very young age that she loved the gospel and had a testimony of her savior Jesus Christ. Her dream has always been to be a great mother and homemaker, and to grow and be worthy of that testimony and of a very special heritage she had been given.

Nancy was married on June 28th, 1967, in South Ogden to James R. Loosemore. Together, they had four beautiful children, and they were later divorced.

Nancy then married her eternal companion Rolon Dan Burton on July 28th, 1984 at the Logan Temple. Nancy moved to Tremonton with Dan, and they spent the next 21 years building a lovely farm together and raising their family. Together, they had two more wonderful children. In 2005, they moved to their home in Perry, Utah, where they settled into their retirement. “My love and admiration for Dan grew with each passing day, and I was so blessed to have him in my life.” Dan was always loving and positive to his children and stepchildren.

Nancy is survived by six beautiful children: Carla Michelle (Mark) Spear, Miranda Lee Kizziar, Angela Sue (Tyler) Bronson, James Ryan Loosemore, Richard Dan Burton, and Katie Elizabeth (Glory Fortuna) Burton; her most precious ten grandchildren: Mark Nathan (Kellyn) Spear, Zachary James (Karly) Spear, Kylee Miranda (Jayden) Galetka, Justin Kizziar, Tawny (Anthony) Kizziar, Ashley (Alex) Hanby, Dawson Arvid (Baylee) Swift, Molly Swift, Riley James Loosemore Muñoz, and Aleena Jade Loosemore; and by her 13 great-grandchildren: Charlie, Oliver, Lane, Ella, Tyson, Brixton, Delaney, Brantley, Ellie, Averie, Addison, Avery, and Peyton. Finally, Nancy is survived by her brothers and sisters: Roger Lee (Nanette) McFarland, Robert Kelly McFarland, Dr. Scott Taylor (Stacie) McFarland, LouAnn Anderson, Kathleen (Todd) Devries, Glenna Dean (Val) Surrage, and Pamela (Dan) Loomis, along with many nieces and nephews.

Nancy loved using her organizational skills and learned to be a hard worker from her parents. Over the years, she took on many roles. She worked at Hill Air force base for several years in the office of transportation, where she attained several awards, before being transferred to Thiokol Corporation air force contract. She later transferred to the Thiokol Corporation itself. Nancy then attained her general contracting license and spent a few years working with her brother Roger. In her later years, Nancy worked with Central de la Familia, the Migrant Head Start Program, and driving buses and training other drivers as a certified trainer for the state of Utah in the transportation department for 20 years. She enjoyed music, occasionally playing the piano and singing. In her youth, her favorite pastime was swimming. Nancy loved gardening and reading, and she spent more time doing just that after she retired. She also loved working in the Brigham Temple. Above all else, Nancy adored her children and her grandchildren, and wanted to retire to see more of them as some lived out of state.

The family would like to express how deeply grateful they are to Dr. Eric D. Johnson and the staff at Intermountain Health Cancer Center for the kind and compassionate care they gave our dear mom. A special thanks to Bristol Hospice, especially Holly, Brooke, and Reagan, for the incredible love you gave our mom and the kindness you extended to our family during her last days.

Viewing and services will be held at the Perry Chapel (685 W 2250 S, Perry, UT). There will be a viewing on Wednesday, May 6th from 6:00-8:00 pm, and on Thursday, May 7th from 10:00-11:30 am. The service will begin at 12:00 pm.

Interment will be in the Bothwell Valley View Cemetery in Bothwell, Utah, located in the Bothwell/Thatcher area.
