Javier T. Ontiveros
With heavy hearts, the family of Javier T. Ontiveros, lovingly known to family and friends as “Bear,” announces his passing. Javier will be remembered for his strength, humor, and the deep love he carried for his family and friends throughout his life.
Javier was born on June 9, 1953, in Cerritos, Mexico, to Ubaldo and Francisca Ontiveros. As the eldest of eleven children, he spent his life looking out for his little brothers and sisters with love and a protective spirit. In the 1950s, the family migrated to Chicago, where Javier grew up and proudly graduated from Harrison High School as a member of the Class of 1974. In 1976, he became a United States citizen, a milestone that brought him great pride. Javier eventually made his home in Utah, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Javier loved sports, especially baseball. He was a champion bowler who spent countless happy hours surrounded by friends and laughter at the bowling alley. A machinist by trade, he took pride in his hard work and craftsmanship.
Music brought Javier great joy, especially Mexican classics like José Alfredo Jiménez. One of his favorite songs was “Perhaps Love” by John Denver, and for those of us fortunate enough to know him, Javier truly was “a shelter from the storm” with his laughter, his sincerity, and his ability to always crack a joke and make us smile.
He is survived by his siblings Maria (Epifanio) Pineda, Gabriela (Bill) Renek, Santos (Kristen) Ontiveros, and Octaviano Ontiveros. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ubaldo and Francisca Ontiveros, and his siblings Esperanza, Arturo, Antonio, Graciela, Virginia, and Rene.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 29th, at Evergreen Memorial Park.
