July 3, 1952 – October 31, 2026
Susan Thurza Martin Cottle, 74, of Plain City, Utah passed away October 31, 2026, because of complications from a fall earlier in the year.
Susan was born July 3, 1952, to her mother Ruth Mary Leavitt Martin and her father Donald William Martin in Ogden, Utah. She grew up in Clearfield, Utah and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1970.
She attended a few classes at Weber State College where she met her future husband, Lynn Cottle. After she winked at him a couple of times, he decided he needed to ask her out on a date. After that date, all of their attention focused on each other. They were married September 6, 1973, in the Salt Lake Temple, by Lynn’s previous mission president, John K. Edmunds. They spent their first year living on the second floor of the Lindquist Mortuary in Ogden, Utah. Then Lynn’s house, in which he grew up, became available to buy. They bought it and lived there the rest of her life.
Susan worked as a clerk at Plain City’s grocery store and then spent many years as a welder at Chromalox in Ogden, Utah.
She loved rock and roll, reading, watching scary movies, completing word search puzzles, and her FAVORITE thing, drinking Diet Coke.
Susan was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held several callings during her life.
She cherished her relationships with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was small in stature, but had a big, fiery spirit. She was known for her unexpected and candid responses. Despite her sassy nature, her most prominent characteristics were loving and serving others.
Susan is survived by two sisters and two brothers; her husband of 53 years, Lynn Wayne Cottle; her sons Todd Lynn (Sidney) Cottle, Brian Martin (Valerie) Cottle; and 8 grandchildren: Justin, Taryn, Elizabeth (Dallin), Luke, Jake, Clara, Nelson and Anna.
