Lucille Beckman Niklason
Lucille Beckman Niklason, 97, passed away on September 30, 2026. Born August 7, 1929, in Glenham, South Dakota to Dorothy and Eugene Beckman, Lucille was the 2nd oldest of four children.
She excelled in high school graduating as class valedictorian from Brookings High School. She attended South Dakota State University in Home Economics.
In 1950 Lucille married Lowell Niklason. Lowell worked for the Boeing Company for most of his career, moving Lucille and the family of three children around the west – Wichita, Kansas, Auburn, Washington, Minot, ND and finally to Ogden, Utah in 1966.
Lucille loved learning and once her three children were older, she returned to school at the University of Utah, earning a master’s degree in 1970 and a PhD in Educational Administration in 1984. Lucille worked for many years as a school psychologist in the Davis School District.
Because her mother came from a family of 13 children, Lucille had a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Every summer many would gather for a Schlomer family reunion somewhere in the Midwest. Often Lucille and Lowell were accompanied by their children, and in later years their grandchildren.
Lucille and Lowell attended St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ogden for many years. She made friendships there that endured her entire life. Several of that group of friends included Lucille in volunteer activities with McKay Dee Hospital guild for many years.
In 2016 Lucille moved to the Mountain Ridge Assisted Living Center where again she made many friends. She enjoyed activities and outings, socializing with other residents, and visits from friends and family.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Lowell, her parents, her brothers Lloyd and Eugene, and her sister Joan. She is survived by her three children; Loren, Mike (Gail), and Peggy Miller (Scott), seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ogden, UT on Wednesday, October 7 at 11:00 am. A small lunch will be served after.
The family is grateful for the kindness and care of Visiting Angels, who assisted Lucille greatly in her final years.
