Karen Henrie

Oct 9, 2026

Karen Henrie passed away peacefully at her home in Taylor, Utah, on October 5, 2026, from cancer, at the age of 75.

Born on July 18, 1951, at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, Karen was the daughter of Garth and Lois Ellen Moore Maddock. She grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1969. On June 2, 1972, she was married to her lifelong companion, Kenneth Henrie. They were later sealed in the Ogden Utah LDS Temple, sharing 54 years of loving marriage and family life together.

A dedicated homemaker, Karen poured her heart into making every place her family lived feel like home. Throughout her life, her journey took her across many communities, including Toledo and Akron, Ohio; Billings, Montana; Omaha, Nebraska; Leawood, Kansas; Norcross, Georgia; Upton, Utah, and Taylor, Utah.

Karen was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and devoted herself to serving others. She held many callings over the years, including Relief Society President, Primary President, Young Women leader, Ward Choir member, Ward Historian, and Atlanta Temple worker. She also served her local community as a PTA member and Cub Scout Den Mother. Above all, she was a faithful ministering sister who spent her entire life serving friends and neighbors.

Remembered for her vibrant personality and innocent humor, she made everyday life feel fun and made sure the special events were even more special. Karen loved nature and wildlife and could often be found treasure hunting. A treasure to Karen was anything that had beauty, and to Karen, everything had beauty. She was a rock collector who never passed by a rock that wasn’t a keeper. Affectionately called “the snake lady”, she had abundant knowledge of animals of all kinds and a passion for educating others. Karen surrounded herself with things that brought her joy including collections of mementos, salt and pepper shakers, movies, other oddities, and most important-the people she loved. She enjoyed cross-country road trips with Ken, annual girls trips, and playing cards every chance she got. She took oil painting classes and blessed everyone with her artwork. She loved giving away the vegetables that Ken grew in their garden and the eggs from their chickens. She was on a bowling team, played racquetball and bingo, loved needlework and crochet.

Most of all, she cherished her family, always ensuring everyone felt special through her heartfelt cards, holiday traditions, and thoughtful gifts.

Karen is survived by her husband, Kenneth Henrie; her children, Alisia (David) Bingham of Coalville, UT; Christy (Celso) Chaparro of Pleasant View, UT; Kendra (Chad) of Ogden, UT; Bryan (Jacqueline) Henrie of Overland Park, KS; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Les Maddock, Brent Maddock, and Doug Maddock, and her sister, Nancy Eckert.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Shellie Maddock.
