Lonna Berlin Sorensen

Oct 9, 2026

September 19, 1942 — September 30, 2026

Lonna Berlin Sorensen passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Lonna was born to Milton “Milt” and Reta Berlin and graduated from Ogden High School. She married Richard Sorensen, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, service, and love.

Lonna worked as a nurse, a fitting profession for someone whose life was marked by compassion and a desire to care for others. She was a lifelong, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved serving in her many Church callings. She and Richard especially treasured the opportunity to serve together in the Church’s Addiction Recovery Program, offering encouragement, compassion, and hope to those working to change their lives.

Family was at the heart of Lonna’s life. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She shared an especially close bond with her brothers and sisters, and they remained close throughout their lives, gathering often to play games, enjoy meals, laugh, and simply spend time together.

Lonna enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, knitting, and family history. She was a member of the daughters of Utah Pioneers and loved gathering with them each month. She enjoyed watching BYU football and basketball and had a particular fondness for British love stories. She also loved a clean house–and those who knew her well knew that “clean” meant clean.

During Lonna’s final days, many friends came to visit and say goodbye. Again and again, they spoke of her kindness. It is a simple word, but perhaps one of the finest things that can be said about a life: Lonna was kind. She cared about people, served them, welcomed them, and quietly made their lives better.

Lonna was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Richard; and her brother, William Angus Berlin.

She is survived by her children, David (Patti) Sorensen, Amy (Todd) Crossley, Susie (Larry) Smalley, Jenny (Michael) Pitt, and Nathan (Corie) Sorensen; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; as well as siblings, extended family, and many dear friends.

Lonna’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her hospice nurses, Jamie and Brooklyn, for the tenderness, dignity, and loving care they gave Lonna during her final days.

Lonna lived with a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ and in the promise that families can be together forever. Those she leaves behind will miss her deeply, but they find peace in the same faith that guided her throughout her life: that death is not the end, and that those we love are never truly lost to us.
