Laona M. Rowe
Laona M. Rowe, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, returned to her heavenly home on October 25, 2026. Leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family. Laona was born February 5, 1934, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Joseph Marion and Mabel Thompson Kelly. Her family moved to Ogden, Utah in 1949. She later made her home in North Ogden 71 years. After graduating from Ogden High School, she married Richard E. Rowe, the love of her life, at First Christian Church in Ogden on June 2, 1952. They shared 67 happy years together. Laona later attended Weber State College and earned her nursing degree. She devoted 25 years to caring for patients at McKay-Dee Hospital before retiring in 1993. Her work reflected a caring spirit that extended well beyond her profession, touching the lives of those around her. A lifelong Christian, Laona was an active member of First Christian Church. She served as a Deaconess and in several positions in Christian Women’s Fellowship. Her faith was central to her life and the foundation of love and care she extended to others. Her kindhearted nature cultivated many lifelong friendships. Laona enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, poetry and music. Together with Richard, she had a deep fondness for collecting antiques. She also held a special affection for collecting all things Irish, inspired by her family name, Kelly. Laona was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Melinda; her husband, Richard; her parents; two brothers; and her grandparents. She is survived by her son, Steven (Suzette) Rowe of Salt Lake City; her daughter, Sharon (Kelly) Daneluk of Kaysville; and her son, Scott Rowe of North Ogden. She also leaves four grandchildren–Justin (Lily) Rowe, Janessa (Karl) Grimm, Jackson Daneluk, and Maddisen Daneluk–and two great-grandchildren, Nikolaus and Violet Grimm.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Quail Meadow Assisted Living and Cascade Springs Hospice for their compassionate care. Laona will be remembered for her enduring faith, her caring spirit, her shared adventures with Richard, and, above all, the love she gave her family. Her life reminds us that happiness is often found in the simple pleasures, the people we cherish, and the joy of living in the moment. Funeral services will be held at 12 pm on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Myer’s Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Family will meet friends at the mortuary on Friday from 11:00-11:45 am.
