Jerry lived a life marked by service, faith, and devotion to family. He served in the United States Air Force for 21 years, a significant chapter of his life that reflected his dedication and steady character. While serving, he earned his GED, and he later continued his education at Weber State College. After his military career, he worked at Hill Air Force Base and was also known as a handyman, bringing practical skill and a willingness to help to those around him.

He married Deanna Jean Marks on April 1, 1960. Together they had four children together. They later divorced. Jerry met Susan Lee Rothey at the NCO Club, and they married on March 26, 1975. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple a year later. Together they adopted three children.

He was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found joy in his calling in scouts. Jerry also enjoyed camping and especially treasured time spent going to the cabin at Yellowstone. He loved traveling to visit his grandchildren, and those visits were a meaningful part of his life.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Susan Ellis; his devoted children, Terri (Patrick) Johnson, Nadine (Brent) Knight, Charles (Sonja) Ellis, James (Peggy) Ellis, and Luke (Autumn) Ellis; his daughter-in-law, Traci Ellis; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. His gentle guidance and loving legacy will echo through generations to come.

He was preceded in death by his son, Zachary Ellis; daughters, Tracy Lynn Ellis, Jeralyn Ellis; parents; brother, Dennis Lee Ellis; and sister, Claudette Willig.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Uintah 1st Ward, 6660 South 1775 East. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd, and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd, Ogden.

Jerry will be remembered for his years of service, his faithful heart, and the love he carried for his family. His memory will remain a blessing to those who knew him.
