Selena McArthur Mortensen of Roy will celebrate her 80th birthday. The event will be commemorated at an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the Roy LDS 16th Ward building, 4525 S. 2525 West.?She was born on Dec. 22, 1929, in Marion, Idaho, to John and Pearl McArthur. She married Grant J. Mortensen on Oct. 11, 1946, in Malad, Idaho. Their vows were solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple on March 25, 1965. They served in the California San Bernardino LDS Mission and have been married for 63 years.?Her children and their spouses are Vicky and Dennis (deceased) Massengale, Farr West; Thomas Mortensen (deceased); Allen and Susan Mortensen, Layton; Lynn and Rena Mortensen, Pocatello, Idaho; Peggy and Kent Clawson, Huntsville; Joyce and Ray Dozier, Las Vegas; John and Claudette Mortensen, Washington Terrace; and Barbara and Dwayne Moore, White Water, Colo.?She has 37 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.?An active member of the LDS Church, she has served in many church callings, including Relief Society and Primary presidents and currently as ward Young Women’s secretary.?She worked for Ogden city schools as a cook and enjoys writing poetry, reading, baking rolls and serving others.
