Beth Worlton Porter of Clearfield will celebrate her 85th birthday. Family and friends are welcome to attend an open house in her honor from 4:30 to ?6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Clearfield 2nd Ward, 1175 E. 1225 South (two blocks east of Fowers Service).?She was born on Oct. 18, 1924, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Joel and Elsie Bean Worlton. She married Joseph Verle Porter on Nov. 14, 1949, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died in 2003.?She worked as a telegraph operator during World War II and served an LDS mission to the Southern States. She served in many callings in the LDS Church, including ward and stake Relief Society president, ward Primary, Young Women’s president, gospel doctrine teacher and Ogden LDS Temple ordinance worker. She and her husband served three missions to California with three months on an American Indian reservation. She was Clearfield High School Parent Teacher Student Association president and a 4-H leader. ?She enjoys swimming, quilting, publishing family histories and helping her daughter’s preschool. She also belongs to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.?Her children are Jean Schnebly, Mesa, Ariz.; John Porter, Renton, Wash.; Verla Seipel, Orem; T.R. Porter, Buena Vista, Va.; Lael Wall, Layton; Stephen Porter, North Ogden; and Eve Matheson, Clearfield. Twins Mary and Martha Porter are deceased. ?She has 43 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
