Wilford Zaugg of West Point will celebrate his 95th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house in his honor from 1-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints West Point church house, 3500 W. 300 North. ?He was born on Aug. 29, 1914. Many West Point residents and others know him as a pioneer and builder of the city since 1935. He married Elva Zaugg in 1940 and has 11 children, 56 grandchildren and 79 great-grandchildren. ?He still lives on the dairy farm he carved out of sandburs and weeds, raised his family, and sold raw milk to friends and neighbors. He raised a variety of crops to share with family and friends. Today he tends his garden and gives away most of the peas, corn, tomatoes, melons and other produce. He is known by family and friends for making writing pens out of wood that was given to him by people throughout the world who know of his creations.?He developed close familial ties as he fished and hunted game with his brothers, sons and sons-in-law, while providing meat and adventurous stories to share with his family. He is a recipient of the National Boone and Crocket Trophy Award. ?He served an LDS mission to New York and also a temple mission with his wife to Dallas. They served 18 years in the Ogden LDS Temple. He served for years in ward, stake and community and provided land to build a church, school and homes. He gave the dedicatory prayer for the West Point Town Hall. He and his wife enjoy visiting friends and family and attending weddings and other gatherings.?
