Delbert John “Bus” Bingham of Ogden celebrated his 95th birthday on Feb. 6 with his family and friends at Jeremiah’s Restaurant. Born Feb. 7, 1915, in Ogden to Adelbert W. Bingham and Hannah Rhodelpha Knight, he was raised in the Marriott-Slaterville area. He played basketball for Weber High School and Church M-men. He received an athletic scholarship to Weber State College and Utah State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He played basketball, starting as a main string player. He led the Big Seven Conference, scoring the first NCAA basketball tournament in 1939 for USU.?He joined the U.S. Air Force and was a glider pilot in World War II, serving 30 months overseas and five years active duty. He was honored at WSU and University of Utah for his service. He served in the European Theater and was part of the largest aerial attack of the war in Market Garden, receiving many medals and awards.?He married Inez Taylor Winkler on Aug. 6, 1945. His daughters are Kay and (Conrad deceased) Stephenson, Delpha and Mike Arbon, Sharon Kidman, and Joan and Bill Coombs. She died in December 1999. He enjoys being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in the Highland and 41st wards in Ogden.?He has been self-employed in the food industry. He was the owner of Buffet Potato Chip Co., held a franchise for Lunch Time Potato Chips, Frito Lay and Archway Cookies. He has 21 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren (with five on the way), and six great-great-grandchildren.
