erman Jones of Washington Terrace will celebrate his 90th birthday at a family gathering at the home of his daughter on Aug. 6.?He was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Heflin, La. Reared and educated in the Webster Parish schools, he began his working career on the family farm at an early age. As a very young man, he decided farming was not for him and headed West, settling in Ogden in 1942. ?He began a career with the Union Pacific Railroad Diner Car Department, when he entered the U.S. Army. After completing his service during World War II, he returned to the railroad. He retired in 1982 after 39 years of service as a chief cook. In 1984, he began a second career with the Ogden Golf & Country Club, where he has worked the past 27 years. ?He married the love of his life, Hazel L. James, on July 18, 1952. They have been married 58 years.?He is an active member of the New Zion Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion Baker-Merrill Post No. 9, and is the only living charter member of Pioneer Post No. 66. He served the post for more than 50 years until it closed in 2000. He is a member of the Union Pacific Old Timers Club No. 6.?He enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Other interests include gardening, fishing, golfing and traveling with his wife or daughters. ?He has five daughters, 14

grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
