Don K. Wilson of Ogden celebrated his 80th birthday with a gathering of family and friends on Aug. 13 at the MTC Pavilion in Ogden.?He was born Aug. 13, 1931, in Ogden to Joseph S. and Ruby B. Wilson. The youngest of three children, he grew up in Ogden with a brother and sister.?He attended Ogden schools. Following high school, he was employed by the Ogden Union Railroad & Depot Co. until his enlistment in the Air Force in December 1950. After four years of service, he returned to Ogden and his former railroad employment. In 1955, he enrolled at Weber State College in pre-engineering and subsequently the University of ?Utah to study mechanical ?engineering.?He worked at the Snow Basin Ski area for 13 years with the ski patrol and in area management. In February 1981, he moved to Thiokol Corp. and was employed in the ordnance engineering department as a design engineer, project engineer and program manager. He retired from Thiokol in 1994 after 13 years.?While stationed at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kan., he married Donna Baker of Topeka. ?They had six children: Steven Wilson, Scott Wilson, and Penny Wilson, all of Ogden; and Thomas Wilson, Layton. A son and daughter are deceased: Dan Wilson and Edee Wilson. He has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and enjoys family gatherings and hosting family dinners on special occasions. ?He is an avid reader and enjoys mystery novels and books about the physical sciences, particularly outer space and the Cosmos.
