oyd Stoddard of North Ogden will celebrate his 80th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house in his honor from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on July 2 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Oquirrh 1st Ward Cultural Hall, 12830 S. 2700 West, Riverton.?He was born July 7, 1931, to James D. and Mabel Kendrick Stoddard in Bingham Canyon. He married Joyce Wells on May 28, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died May 30, 1980. He then married Linda Chambers on March 1, 1982, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.?In 1951, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, which included two tours in French Morocco.?He graduated from University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in June 1960. He worked with Boeing Co. in Seattle. A total of 31 years with Boeing brought many experiences, including manned and unmanned space systems engineering, design and development of the mass transit system in Japan for the International Exposition on Okinawa, and in Huntsville, Ala., working on the International Space Station as the systems engineering manager. He retired Aug. 1, 1991.?He is an active member of the LDS Church and has served in many ward and stake positions. He served as an Ogden LDS Temple worker.?His children and spouses are Sheri and Jim Eaton, Charmaine and Scott Valenzuela, Mark and Shirley Stoddard, Michael and Haylie Stoddard, Rebekah Stoddard, Joseph Stoddard, and Robert Stoddard. He has 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
