Betty Marie Korth Forsgren of Layton celebrated her 80th birthday with family and friends on Feb. 28. ?She was born Feb. 28, 1931, to Ernest Wilhelm and Korma Kelly Korth in Brigham City. She grew up on the family farm with her older brother and younger sister and brother, learning to work hard, thinning beets and picking cherries. She attended schools in Brigham City, graduating from Box Elder High School in 1949. As a member of the Box Elder High School Band, she marched in the centennial anniversary of the Days of ’47 Parade in Salt Lake City.?She married Herbert Forsgren on April 3, 1952. In 1954, she moved for a short time to Newport, R.I., where her husband was stationed in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Utah, settling in Layton in 1956. They enjoyed bowling, camping and traveling after retirement. He died March 21, 1995. She worked at Hill Field Elementary School as a food services manager, retiring in 1986 with 18 years of service.?As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in Primary and Relief Society, and made more than 100 quilts for babies in her ward. She enjoys sewing, quilting, photos and family.?She has a daughter and a son: DeNece Forsgren and Alan Forsgren. She has two grandsons: John Young (deceased), and Justin and Jennifer Forsgren. She also has four great-grandchildren: Caitlin Forsgren, Corbin Forsgren, Caden Forsgren and Cooper Forsgren. She has a sister and two brothers: LaRae and (Hollis deceased) Osborne, Kelly (deceased) and Marie Korth, and Wayne and Maxine Korth.
