John Parker will celebrate his 100th birthday on March 23. His family and Country Hills Manor Condominium residents will celebrate his birthday with him on March 26 at a pot-luck party in the clubhouse.?He was born March 23, 1911, in Round Valley, Idaho, to John and Selemna Parker. At the age of 16, his career with the U.S. Forest Service began on a crew clearing trails. He graduated with a degree in forestry from the University of Idaho in 1934. He began work when a ranger had to own four horses to use on his job, and finished when flights to the Forest Service Washington Office were a common part of his work. He worked in Utah, Nevada and Idaho, where he was the forest supervisor of Caribou National Forest. He was a junior forester, ranger, forest staff officer and forest supervisor on two national forests. In 1960, he worked in the Forest Service Regional Office in Ogden, where he retired in 1970. He has enjoyed 41 years of retirement by traveling the United States.?He married Josephine Theirfelder in 1935. She died in 1989. Their daughter and her spouse are Sharon and Larry Wright. He has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.?He lives in Country Hills Manor Condominiums in Ogden, where he has resided for 40 years. He has been on the condo board for more than 30 years, and is still active in the care of the roofs, roads and taking care of jobs as needed.?He has held Utah Jazz season tickets for 23 years. The Jazz basketball players, including John Stockton and Karl Malone, have recognized him as a dedicated fan.?
