Laurel Dean Rock of Morgan will be honored for his 90th birthday by his children and their spouses. Friends and family may attend an open house in his honor from 1 to 3 p.m. on May 7 at the Highlands LDS meeting house, 5378 W. Old Highway Road, in Mountain Green. Light refreshments will be served. No gifts.?He was born on May 6, 1921, in Morgan to Laurel and Leatha Phillips Rock.?After graduating from Morgan High School in 1940, he met the love of his life, “that cute little redhead,” Myrtle Gleason of Garland. They were married April 5, 1942. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. He has helped his father in the fields in Morgan and worked at Hill Air Force Base for 36 years, retiring in 1978.?He is active in the LDS Church, having held many positions, including a mission that he and his wife served in North Carolina. He was also active in Scouting for more than 60 years. ?He enjoys gardening and visitors often find him up to his elbows in dirt.?His children and their spouses are DeAnn and Rick Fresh, Linda and Craig Kendell, John and Susan Rock, Pete and Melanie Rock, and Julie and Bart Kendell.?He also has 21 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
