Ogden magician sticks his neck out for relay

GDEN — Come Saturday, magician Bruce Bunnell will be all tied up.?

The Ogdenite will attempt to escape from a straitjacket and guillotine as part of the Worldwide Escape Artist Relay, an international event featuring magicians trying to avoid the clutches of handcuffs, chains and other restraints.?Bunnell will perform his escape, as well as some magic, at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ogden Amphitheater, 343 Historic 25th St. Admission is free.?The Ogden magician will try to beat his own record by performing this escape in less than two minutes. Bunnell will wear a regulation straitjacket and be chained to a table attached to a guillotine, with his head locked in the stocks. A timer will release the guillotine blade after two minutes.?”Hopefully I’ll get out before the time …. If not, then it might be messy,” said Bunnell, the founder and past president of the Northern Utah Magic Association.?He has performed the escape, which he created himself, once before, in August.?Also participating will be Brandon Chapman, of Ogden, a 13-year-old junior member of the magic association. It’s Chapman’s first escape attempt; he’ll try to get free of a rope and two handcuffs made for the thumbs, Bunnell said.?For more information, call (801) 394-8123.
