Celebrating 14 years and seven albums, local contemporary a cappella group Eclipse 6 is booked for a performance at the Kenley Amphitheater in Layton.
Shayne Taylor, one of the six vocalists from the group, said Eclipse 6 hasn’t played at the amphitheater for a few years but is excited to be back. He promised a fun concert for everyone of all ages. The group performs at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 19.
“We have new songs we are going to be doing that we released recently on YouTube, so we’re going to be performing those and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Taylor said.
Eclipse 6, formed when members were at Utah State University, is known for its covers of popular songs. One of these new songs, “Pompeii” by Bastille, already has over 36,600 views on YouTube. The group produces all of the sounds vocally; no outside instrumentation is ever used.
“Most people would say that doing all-vocal music is kind of a higher level of difficulty, but we’ve been doing it for a long time and so that’s always been our focus,” Taylor said. “We just know each other and each other’s voices and roles really well, so it’s always been something that’s our strong suit.”
The group came together in 1999 and released its debut album, “Once,” in 2001. Throughout the early 2000s, the group won a number of awards and competitions that put members in the spotlight.
The Eclipse 6 concert is one of the nine remaining concertsof the Summer Nights With the Stars concert series presented by the Davis Arts Council in Layton.
