Worth the Drive: Concerts, yoga and Easter activities
Easter is here, and there’s plenty to do throughout the state. Here are just a handful of events that are worth the drive around Utah.
The 18th annual event will showcase the musical and creative talents of students from Mountain Crest and Ridgeline high schools.
When: 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 13-14

Canyon Conversation: Meet the Collared Lizard
Come and meet the newest addition to the Stokes Nature Center, a collared lizard. Staff will unveil the lizard’s name and will offer a chance to get up close to the reptile during this family friendly event.
When: 4 p.m. Friday, April 14

The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium will host a rainforest yoga session in the Journey to South America Gallery, which provides humidity and the ambiance of an authentic rainforest. Instructor Amanda Jones will teach the class, and the class is open to all experience levels.

The annual Bunny Hop event will be held at Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum in Salt Lake City. In addition to a private Easter egg hunt, the event will also offer science activities, garden snacks, and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

The second annual event will much more than just a 5K. The Egg Run will also have a “Bunny Dash” for children four years and lower, and a “Hopstacle” course will be held for kids ages 5-12. Prizes will be given for top male and female runners, the top runner with a stroller, the top runner with a dog and the runner with the top “Bunny Hop” performance.

State of Utah Black Affairs Summit
The University of Utah’s Black Faculty & Staff Association will host the first State of Utah Black Affairs Summit. The summit’s theme will be “Shaping Our Presence, Voice, Leadership & Activism.” This Summit is in alignment with the University of Utah’s thirteen responses to racial climate.
When: 9 a.m. Saturday, April 15
Where: University of Utah College of Social Work, 395 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City
Cost: Free
This expo brings the many area gluten free options to one location. Gift bags with coupons, samples, treats and prizes will also be given out during the event.

Johnny Cash cover band The Cold Hard Cash Show will perform at the State Room in Salt Lake City. The group will play all of the classics from the Man in Black and will bring the energy during their Saturday night show.

Alex Sharpe, former lead singer of the singing group Celtic Woman, will perform at the Logan Tabernacle on Saturday, April 15. Sharpe will be joined by pianist and composer Jason Tonioli, and television personality Glenn Rawson. Sharpe will also perform Thursday in Ogden at Peery’s Egyptian Theater.

Actress, singer and songwriter Nellie McKay will perform in Park City this Saturday. McKay will perform her newest work, “A Girl Named Billy,” a comical yet tragic story of a musician named Billy Tipton, who is discovered to be female after he dies.
