This Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, is the inaugural Bites, Brews & Tunes at The Monarch, featuring live music with Old Ghost, tasty bites from Utah's Own, a beer garden, food vendors and more.

The Monarch Market is bringing the community together over local craft beer, great food and live music this Saturday with its debut Bites, Brews & Tunes featuring tasty bites from Utah’s Own and a special live performance by indie folk/rock artist Old Ghost.

Ogden-based musician, poet and singer/songwriter Nicholas Garn, also known as Old Ghost, will be playing an unplugged set of new songs including his newly released debut single “Shine on the Way,” written during the winter of 2020 and recorded, mixed and mastered entirely at his home.

Throughout the five-minute track, autobiographical lyrics expose a human moment of darkness, complemented with layered sounds — keys, synth, electric guitar, bass, drum rack — that create shifting moods, from loneliness to self-reflection, culminating in glimmers of hope.

“As so many too often find themselves, in the moment of writing ‘Shine on the Way’ I felt exceptionally afraid and alone. When I find myself in those spaces, I instinctively turn to a guitar and a notepad to try and sort it out,” Garn said.

The upcoming Monarch show is a release party for “Shine on the Way,” the song that stands as an “expansion marker” for Garn. “It’s definitely the first serious iteration of me stretching into a world of sound to which I had not previously had access. It’s bigger and heavier … and shinier,” he said. “A sort of love letter to the turning of a new chapter. ‘Either way, there’s a shine on the way…'”

Ogden-based poet, musician and singer/songwriter Nicholas Garn, also known as Old Ghost, will perform his new song "Shine on the Way" and more at The Monarch during the inaugural Bites, Brews, & Tunes this Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021.

Garn will be joined by two other local musicians, Sammi Plum and Jon Bentley. Next to the stage, a beer garden stocked with craft brews from Roosters Brewing Co. and UTOG will allow attendees to sit and listen to the music with a beverage while tasting delicious bites served up by Utah’s Own and food vendors Cheryls Bagels, Petra’s Backstubchen, Logos Coffee, Plant Kandy, Dawnita’s Doggy Delights, Salsitas Mendoza, Mountain Born Creamery, Banana Boy Bread and more.

The Monarch said they wanted “to create a fun space for families to be able to come on a Saturday morning to enjoy good vibes, eat some yummy bites, listen to music and let the adults have a cold beer.”

The food and music-focused markets, Bites, Brews & Tunes, will be a monthly event, every last Saturday, starting in January.
