The Ogden Raptors will celebrate the 30th anniversary of “A League of Their Own” with two tribute games, Ogden Whoopie Girls vs. Junction City Dolls, at Lindquist Stadium. The first game is on Saturday.

Ogden is honoring the 30th anniversary of “A League of Their Own,” a movie about an all-women baseball team, with two tribute baseball games at the Lindquist Field, home of the Ogden Raptors. The Ogden Whoopie Girls, named after the historic women of the Ogden Pioneer Days rodeo, will take on the Junction City Dolls on Saturday at 7 p.m. and July 11 at 7:30 p.m. Both games are free and will raise money for suicide prevention organizations.

Justin Nakaishi, vice president of SavOn Sporting Goods, is the coach of the softball team which represented Utah at the USSSA Challenge Cup in the Women’s C Division and brought home gold. Players from the team will be competing as the visiting team, Junction City Dolls, in Saturday’s A League of Their Own tribute game. Krista Jensen, infield player, says, “This game is an amazing opportunity to remember the women who played on the original teams during a difficult time in our country’s history,” paying tribute to the true story of women saving baseball that is highlighted in the film.

Kelsey Rodriguez is a utility player on the team who says she is remembering her late uncle who taught her to play while preparing for the game.

The Ogden Whoopie Girls team is made up of all the women who showed up for the free open tryouts hosted by the Ogden Raptors on June 11.

Gates to both games will open at 6 p.m. Replica player jerseys and other merchandise will be sold and the concessions will be open.

This is the first event of this kind in Ogden and is sure to be a special experience for the community and the teams alike.
