Families relax on the grass for live tunes at the first Blues, Brews & BBQ of the season on Sunday, June 19, 2022.

Beets & Beats 2022

This Saturday, Farmers Market Ogden hosts its fifth annual Beets & Beats, an artist “paint-off” starting at 10 a.m. at the Ogden Municipal Gardens. Participating artists have two hours to paint their own visual representation of the market and unique rendition of the Farmers Market beet logo on 4–4 canvas sheeting. The community is invited to watch the artists in action and vote for their favorite piece while listening to live jams from local artists — “the beats to go with the beets.” The winning artist receives a cash prize from Ogden Downtown Alliance.

Saturday, July 30, 10 a.m. to noon, Ogden Municipal Gardens, 25th Street and Washington Boulevard, free, facebook @ogdendowntown

Blues, Brews & BBQ

Escape to cooler temps this Sunday for the final Blues, Brews & BBQ of the season with the soulful blues of Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble. This touring band comes straight from the heart of Creole Country in Louisiana to put on a dance party at Snowbasin Resort in Hunstville. Ogden’s own alt-bluegrass and improv poetry quartet The Snarlin’ Yarns will kick things off. This laid-back concert series is a favorite gathering place for locals and visitors where attendees can bring blankets, chairs and umbrellas to relax on the lawn with cocktails and local brews, available on the patio, and BBQ-style grub from Earl’s Lodge. While there, friends and families can explore the hiking trails, ride the gondola or head over to the Wildflower Mini-Golf Course and playground.

Sunday, July 31, 12-5 p.m., Snowbasin Resort, 3925 East Snowbasin Road, Huntsville, $10, shop.snowbasin.com/s/summer-activities

‘Shrek The Musical’

Ogden Musical Theatre (OMT) presents “Shrek The Musical” for its summer production this year, opening on July 29 and running through Aug. 13. OMT says, “Shrek the Musical, will have you laughing out loud, tearing up at tenderness, and realizing that acceptance of everyone is key, so be kind, as we all have a little freak flag to fly!” The production, directed by Andrew Barratt Lewis with musical direction by Kenneth Plain and choreography by Jo Blake, stars Dre’lan Evans (Donkey) from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who sent in his audition video after seeing an Instagram story about the auditions; another star of the show is a huge, custom-made mechanical puppeteer dragon that breathes smoke, among other surprises.

July 29-August 13, Peery’s Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Boulevard, $15-$28, ogdenpet.com/events
