OGDEN — National Hispanic Heritage Month is here and a Weber County organization is hosting a festival on Saturday to celebrate the local Latino population.

The Ogden Hispanic Festival, now in its seventh incarnation, is set for Saturday and goes from 2-8 p.m. It will be held at the Ogden Amphitheater, 343 25th St.

“Our goal is to bring the Ogden and surrounding community together to celebrate the diverse Latino culture and provide a forum where resources from organizations and businesses alike that value, embrace and celebrate diversity can connect with the Latino community,” reads an announcement about the event. The event will put the “culture, history, education, music, dance and gastronomy” of the Latino community on display.

It is sponsored by Latinos United Promoting Education and Civic Education, or LUPEC, a nonprofit Weber County group focused on empowering the Latino community through education. Organizers are hoping for a crowd of 2,500 or more.

Among the guest performers will be Vilma Diaz y la Sonora.

National Hispanic Heritage Month goes from Sept. 15-Oct. 15 each year. It aims to offer a tribute “to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society,” reads a Library of Congress website about the month.
