The summer season is upon us, bringing with it the first wave of annual city festivals and pyrotechnic demonstrations in Weber and Davis counties. Kicking off the slate of festivities will be Clinton City Heritage Days, taking place June 9-14.

Laretta Beesley, a resident of the city with her husband, Robert, for the better part of five decades, will serve as Heritage Days’ grand marshal.

“For me, I think that’s just fun,” Beesley told the Standard-Examiner of her selection. “I’ve been really active in the city for a long time, doing a lot of things. So, it’s just kind of fun.”

The event that became Heritage Days was just one of a veritable bonanza of city programs and events that Beesley has been involved with over the years. She also started Clinton’s annual Easter Egg Hunt, dying hundreds of farm-fresh eggs for those early events. For her, giving back to a city she describes as “nice,” “friendly” and “away enough from the freeway” has been its own reward.

“We’ve been really, truly involved in it for a long time,” Beesley said. “I was president of the arts board for a lot of years, which we brought in ‘Clinton Idol’ and those kinds of things, too. So, I’ve been there. I’ve been right in the middle of it for a long time.”

The following is a noncomprehensive list of city celebrations occurring through June for which details have been announced.
