"The Lord is my Shepherd" by Traci Douglass.

Traci Douglass is a former nurse and artist who creates uplifting works of art that “bring people closer to each other and closer to God,” she said.

Her background in serving the sick and love for God carries over into her paintings. Douglass says she loves showing the beauty of God’s creations through landscape, portrait, wildlife and especially her pictures depicting Jesus and his love for others.

She works in different art mediums including oils, watercolors, pencil, acrylic and pastels, choosing which medium will be fun once the idea for the painting becomes clear.

Now located in Studio 29 at The Monarch where she regularly creates and displays her “works of love,” Douglass has loved art since she was young. Her passion for art flourished in the eighth grade, where an incredible art teacher helped start a wonderful journey into painting, she said. Later, in high school, she became an Art Sterling Scholar.

She studied at Weber State, where she received her registered nursing degree. While she loved serving and helping people as a nurse, she also loved being creative with painting and drawing. Her days were full, but she found time to do art, sometimes staying up late into the night with a paintbrush and canvas. She continued studying art and took classes and workshops from master artists.

One of Douglass’ pictures of Jesus has prints distributed all over the world. “I felt it such a privilege to receive letters from people that were struggling in life and find that the picture has brought them hope and a feeling of love and peace,” she said.

Douglass wrote a book that will be released soon, “The Things That Matter Most…. What the Dying and Elderly Want You to Know.” She says she felt strongly about her experiences as a nurse with those who were close to death.

In her book, she talks about what the elderly and dying wished they had known and what they want you to know about life and what is most important when all is gone. Painted pictures with inspirational sayings are illustrated throughout that Douglass says can be cut out of the book and placed around your house to help keep in mind things that are most important in life.

Douglass is a frequent speaker at churches and other gatherings and has enjoyed sharing her love of art and “the things that matter most.”

“I feel gratitude and love for my family; they have been my greatest source of encouragement and help,” said Douglass, whose husband, Phil Douglass, is a photographer and takes most of her references for paintings. They have four children, who often posed as a models for paintings. Now, she says, she is experiencing the great joy of grandchildren.
