Awards will be announced for the Black & White Competition at Eccles Art Center at a public reception during Ogden's First Friday Art Stroll on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022.

The Northern Utah High School Art Competition and Petite Impressions exhibits at Eccles Art Center are on display for their final week now through Saturday. In February, awards will be presented for the 18th biennial Statewide Black & White Competition during Ogden’s First Friday Art Stroll at a public reception at the art center.

During the January art stroll, Eccles Art Center announced winners for the Third Annual Northern Utah High School Art Competition, including Annalise Streeter for Best of Show, “Monument,” (Syracuse High School); Award of Merit to Morgan McEwen, “Splash of Cobalt” (Syracuse High School), Ella Streeter, “Shelter of Existence” (Syracuse High School), Samuel Taylor, “For Housing” (Ogden High School) and Averie Mcpheters, “Busy Honey Bee” (Bountiful High School); Juror’s Award to Ashlyn Jamison, “The Mask” (Sky View High School) and Sierra Jones, “Where Did the Time Go?” (Bountiful High School); and Honorable Mention for Ella Johnson, “Orchard” (Viewmont High School), Kashius Bey, “False Set” (Ogden High School), Trey Hustad, “Covered Jar” (Ridgeline High School) and Dawson Pitcher, “Awestruck” (Weber High School).

The art center accepted works in all media by high school seniors in Box Elder, Cache, Davis, Rich, and Weber counties for the scholarship award competition. Students from public, charter and private schools from Bear River to Farmington registered to participate.

Eccles Art Center also continues to feature works accepted from Utah artists who participated in the Eccles Art Center’s Petite Impressions Competition until Saturday. These small works are under 8 inches in any dimension with framing under 15 inches. The competition was supported by new artists, those who are up and coming as well as professional artists in both two- and three-dimensional art.

Earlier this month, Eccles Art Center announced a call for entries for the Statewide Black & White Competition, a juried competition that gives three monetary awards for first, second and third place.

The Black & White Competition was open to all Utah-residing artists and photographers with original artwork in black, white and/or shades of gray that is within two years of completion and has not been previously exhibited in an EAC-sponsored juried exhibit. Works in all media were accepted, including paintings, prints, monoprints, drawings, graphics, photographs, pottery, sculptures and textiles.

The Black & White Competition is funded by grants provided by Weber County RAMP, Ogden City Corp/Ogden City Arts, the Utah Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

A reception for artists, friends and the community will be held on Friday, Feb. 4, from 5-8 p.m. at the Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave. The awards for the Black & White Competition will be posted at the reception and the exhibit will be on display from Feb. 4-26.

EAC offers events, arts competitions, monthly exhibits, classes, workshops and more year-round. The art gallery is free and open to the public weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit ogden4arts.org or call 801-392-6935.
