A fresh coat of white paint on her family’s home called to Adriana Moore as she picked up some charcoal from her father’s grill and started her first mural as a small child. Ever since then, Moore has been using art to express herself … but with a bit less vandalism.

Moore grew up in South Africa till she was 12 and moved to the western United States. In junior high, she says she learned her third language: art.  “I learned that art was a form of expression, that even though Afrikaans was my first language and English my second, art was communication without words.”

A mixed-media artist, Moore says she lets the project determine her medium and often chooses a medium for fun … much like the charcoal. She loves food art. “Food is something that has brought me joy — not just my foodie side but, growing up, food was the reason for friends and family to gather, one of the benefits of traveling and something we could do to serve one another,” she said.

Moore loves to show her eclectic side, but her favorites are her sentimental or commissioned works. Similarly, she is inspired by the sentimental work of other creatives. “I adore confidence, quality and expression. When someone can say what my heart feels, I am an admirer forever,” Moore said.

For the past five years, Moore has been teaching at Bonneville High School, although she’s been teaching since 2005. She also teaches three classes for Weber State University. Moore has a passion for teaching and already offers classes at The Monarch — the first a Lucky Charms redesign, and more to come. “I love teaching,” she said. “I love sharing my passion through practice and experience.”

Moore often offers sales and discounts, always trying to provide opportunities to everyone. “I meet the needs of my individual students, which is how I treat all my people,” she said. “I love people!”

One of the newest artists at The Monarch, Moore says she loves having a dedicated space to create: “I have always wanted an art space to call my own. I wanted the push to create current work consistently and the community that The Monarch has naturally. Art is and always has been my safe, happy and confident space. I am confident that I am doing exactly what I was supposed to do — both as teacher and artist!”
