Uber, Blade agree to cease Sundance helicopter flights, officials say

By Brett Hein - | Jan 23, 2016

Uber and Blade have agreed to stop helicopter operations at Sundance Film Festival, a spokesperson for Summit County said Saturday.

The companies were offering helicopter flights from Salt Lake City to Park City for attendees of the festival.

The Summit County Sheriff’s office issued a cease and desist to the companies and warned them deputies could arrest pilots, according to a report from the Associated Press, but a judge ruled Friday the companies could continue to operate the flights.

The county said the companies did not have proper permits for the ground used to land helicopters in Park City.

“As of 1 p.m., the helicopter companies agreed to stop operating. There will be no more flights in connection with Sundance and without obtaining the necessary land use approvals,” Katie Mullaly, spokesperson for Summit County, said in a statement Saturday.

“We are glad to have this issue resolved, not only for the safety of all those involved, but also for affected residents, environmental concerns and the wildlife of the area,” the statement said.
