OGDEN — The fifth annual Big Lebowski Festival brings The Dude back to downtown Ogden this weekend.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in Peery’s Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The evening starts with a costume contest, followed by an 8 p.m. screening of the 1998 comedy “The Big Lebowski.”

The film stars Jeff Bridges as Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski, a laid-back stoner in 1990s Los Angeles whose simple life consists primarily of smoking marijuana, drinking White Russians and league bowling with his two friends. But a case of mistaken identity tangles The Dude in a web of kidnapping, intrigue and rug-soiling.

The film also stars John Goodman, Steve Buscemi and Julianne Moore. “The Big Lebowski” is rated R. Running time is 1 hour, 57 minutes.

The quirky cult classic was directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, who also produced films like “Raising Arizona,” “O Brother, Where Art Thou” and “No Country for Old Men.”

Tickets are $12 in advance, $18 on the day of the event, available through smithstix.com, at 801-689-8700, or at the box office.

The event is a fundraiser for the Egyptian Theatre Foundation. It’s organized each year by “Big Lebowski” fan Ryan McDonald, a foundation board member.

Organizers say it is not an official Lebowskifest event.
